A Look at the Calendar...

Well the school year is officially underway and if you're like me, so is everything else that was put on hold over the summer: sports, church groups & other extra curricular activities that keep our families busy! I hope you had a chance to flip through the magazine we handed out at Open House called "Jump In", it was provided free by PTO Today and includes some great articles. "Finding Balance" is one article that gives a great perspective on this busy time, it's also available online, if you get a minute click here to read it.

I wanted to post a quick note to remind everyone that our first PTO Meeting is next Thursday, September 6th in the school library. We will have refreshments (coffee, cold drinks & desserts) from 6-6:30pm, this will give a chance to visit and meet new people. The meeting will start at 6:30pm and end at 8:00pm sharp. We respect your busy schedule and commit that we will not go later than 8:00. As mentioned in this blog's side column, the majority of our meetings will take place on the first Monday of each month. This meeting was changed due to Labor Day Holiday and "Meet the Teacher Night" which takes place September 13th, and PTO will be selling Pizza & Ice Cream for that.

Looking ahead, Book Fair will be running from Monday, September 10th-Friday, September 14th and there is always need for volunteers throughout the day during that week. You can sign up in the library or click here to email Mrs. Gibson.

We're looking forward to a great year and we hope to see you on September 6th!

Open House at Shepherd Elementary

The School's Open House is scheduled for Thursday, August 23rd from 3pm-6pm. Each grade level (except 1st) is holding two informational sessions, you can choose whichever is the most convenient for you.

If you are new to the school or have not attended an Open House in the past, you will find your child's name on one of the class lists posted outside of each classroom door. Third through Fifth grade classrooms are down the first hallway on the left (after you come through the front doors). Kindergarten and First grade classrooms are located straight back and to the right. Second grade classrooms are in the "Outback" mobile unit.

Informational Sessions are at these times:

Kindergarten: 3:30 and 5

1st Grade: (no formal sessions)

2nd Grade: 3:30 and 5

3rd Grade: 3:30 and 5

4th Grade: 3:30 and 4:30

5th Grade: 3:30 and 4:30
